Day One Hundred and One

I've finished walking to Edmonton and back so will no longer be posting on this blog. Instead go to Don Gill Walking.

Day One Hundred

4.51 km
Last day of my 100 days - Walking to Edmonton project. Walked a total of 1151.05km, well over my target of 1026km. Good thing today was the end as it was -31 today. Even though the temp is supposed to rise above freezing in a couple of days it will drop again. Walking around kitchen making pizza at L&J's tonight  - asparagus, blue cheese, fig, pear, tomato sauce, and a garnish of artichoke hearts. A good end to the walk even though it was too cold to go out with Steinbeck for a wander.

Day Ninety-nine

10.93 km
Another winter storm blasts through, -31 tonight. Went for a 5km walk in the night (which is anytime after 4pm these days) for a movie night. Another eight days till official winter and one more day in my 100 days of walking to Edmonton and back.

Day Ninety-eight

7.74 km
Meetings today. Not much movement. Quite a bit warmer outside, up to about -5. Not going to last though

Day Ninety-seven

10.03 km
Another day at work. However there is still lots of snow on the ground so walking is difficult outside. Inside walking is much easier and warmer. Less slippery too. Walking outside becomes an ongoing dance in the effort to stay upright.

Day Ninety-six

8.38 km
Slipped on black ice in the parking lot after work today. One of the pleasures of winter. Much warmer today - at least in theory. The temp went up to -11 but wind chill moved it down to -26. Much more unpleasant than cold with no wind. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Day Ninety-five

9.44 km
Arrived back in Lethbridge yesterday on my virtual walk to Edmonton and back, I've walked more than 1026 km since the beginning of September and have only 5 more days to wander around in my 100 days. The good news is that it was -38 degrees this morning so walking conditions have now become less than hospitable. Although it had warmed up to a balmy -26 by the time I left for home and I didn't feel that my life was in danger on the walk back to the parking lot.

Day Ninety-four

6.66 km
Minus 33 this morning. It was a good thing that three newspapers arrived on the doorstep, Saturday's Globe, the Sunday New York Times and today's Globe. Kept me in the house until the temp had risen to a balmy -25 or so. Went out and walked a bit around campus, at least the parts accessible by foot without wading through knee deep snow.

Day Ninety-three

9.25 km
Cold, minus 31 with wind chill. Big snow drifts. you really get a sense of a city's pedestrian friendliness (or lack thereof) after a big snow storm. Roads get plowed - the snow ends up where the sidewalks are.

Day Ninety-two

7.31 km
Snow. Lots of snow. No newspaper this morning so had to walk down to the shop. No newspapers there either unfortunately. Spent the rest of my outdoors time shoveling snow.

Day Ninety-one

10.80 km
Big snow today, first big storm of winter. Maybe the second big storm, I seem to remember an earlier storm that ruined the potatoes that I forgot to dig up.

Day Ninety

12.38 km today. 110.9 km last fortnight. 468.13 km total on return trip. Just passing by Nobleford, getting close to Lethbridge.
Very cold today - walked around downtown a bit in the late afternoon.

Day Eighty-nine

13.24 km
Today I walked 10 km without leaving the building. Erickson buildings with the long hallways are very good for putting on the kilometres. Saw parts of the structure I'd never seen before.  Cold day today, but sunny. Minus twenty tonight.

Day Eighty-eight

10.42 km
Housebound. All day at work - all night at home. It's Tuesday.
Virtually however I'm just past Carmangay
